Amana Refrigerators

I bought a new Amana bottom mounted refrigerator/freezer last month. However, it seems to be running almost all the time – just as much as the old one with the bad door gasket. Four out of five times I go in the kitchen, it’s sounds like it’s running, but my electric usage decreased by 50 KWH from the previous month. Any ideas what’s going on with the new fridge?

Water is pooling under the floor of the freezer on top of the fresh food compartment. There are no visible drains to access on the inside of the freezer or refrigerator compartments. The brand name is Amana and it is a top to bottom unit.

Last month I purchased an Amana bottom-mount refrigerator for approx. 00. At that time, the appliance store said it would be a few weeks until they could deliver it. However, when it was delivered, it was not the refrigerator that I had bought and paid for (it was a Danby top mount). I refused delivery and told the delivery person the reason. He said he had nothing to do with it – that was the refrigerator he was told to deliver to me. While he waited, I called the appliance store only to be informed that the refrigerator I was expecting was out of stock and they didn’t expect to get any more for a long time because of high demand due to the appliance rebate program. When I said that I didn’t want the one delivered, the store agent said I could return it and get my money back less a 30% restocking fee which would be about 0. Now is this a "bait-and-switch" and do I have to pay this exorbitant fee to get my money back? It sounds like a bunch of BS to me. Can’t the store get the Amana bottom-mount in a relatively short time? Should I notify my state’s Attorney General?

I have a Amana Refrigerator that I purchase about 10 yrs ago. I noticed about a week ago that it runs all the time, it won’t stop running, I read the question and answer about this same problem, now if its my thermostat, how long before should I wait to get it fixed and does anyone know about how much it will cost.

My frig Amana produces cold in the freezer only. What can I do to spread the cold in other places? A good thing is that the weather is cold now in February. So, I temporarily keep my stuff outside in the balcony. Is there a way I can fix this problem myself? Any advice would be appreciated? Thank you.

I have an older Amana Fridge and the compressor is stuck on. The whole cycle is not running because the main Fan isnt on.. Just a humming sound from the compressor. I know they have released a recent recall on this but my Fridge does not fall under the "affected" units because it is older. Does anyone know which part they are replacing to fix this problem? If I unplug it and let it cool down when I plug it back in it will cycle correctly for a few hours but eventually gets to the same point where it will just keep the compressor on constantly.

I have an old Amana fridge I am replacing, but need to know the cubic feet I currently have to find a similar model. Searched the net by model and number, but could not find the specs.

It was working fine until today, when all of a sudden the cold air stopped. The blower is working fine. It’s an Amana brand, about 10 years old. Is there anything I can do to fix it myself, before I pay $$ to a handyman?

We bought a new refrigerator/freezer about 1 and 1/2 years ago and while the fridge keeps food nice and cold the freezer hasn’t worked right for a while. Ice cream and other foods come out half frozen/half thawed. It will freeze ice solid though.

I have tried turning up the temperature control knob all the way but since the fridge and freezer share the same knob this just makes everything in my fridge get slushy/frozen and doesn’t do a thing about my shoddy freezer. Has anyone else had this same problem and if so, what did you do to fix it? Thanks!

BTW, the fridge is manufactured under the brand name "Amana" and is made by the same company who makes "Whirlpool" products.

Hi, I am looking for a 18 cu ft refrigerator that draws the least amps, due to the circuit breaker. I noticed that the Whirlpool\Amana\Maytag are around 6.5 amps and the Frigidaire and Kenmore are around 4.5 amps for the same size. It does not seem to matter if there is an ice maker or if its energy efficient. Does anyone know why its different? Do the tags not contain standard information, for instance could one be max amps and the other operating amps? I have read the owners manual on-line and they do not list the amps, neither do appliances web sites.

Amana SXD26WW not cooling well, already replaced defrost timer, seemed to get stuck in defrost cycle. Freezer will make ice but takes a long time. Compressor runs, not overheating. The schematic on the rear of unit is not correct, not providing any help.

For those that question my prowess, I can rebuild any normally aspirated motor you throw at me, build a house way better than ‘code’, and I repair very high end medical equipment for a living, some of which I used to design and build.

Our Amana side by side refrigerator is four years old. It came with our house when we bought it last year. Recently, the freezer side will thaw for about two days. We remove all the food, and then two days later, it’ll freeze again. It’s going back and forth between freezing and thawing. Over the phone, the repairman said "Oh, sounds like the compressor." First — can they seriously diagnose it over the phone? Second — could it be something else? Lastly — how much is the labor on that job, if it is the compressor? The parts are still under warranty.

I’m trying to troubleshoot my Amana fridge in the garage. It was working like a charm and just stopped. It has power, but the fan and compressor is not running. I see a capacitor by the fan. I have no idea where the relay is. The capacitor seems pretty easy to replace. Would one of these cause the problem.

Fridge is an Amana french door/bottom freezer, two years old.

Freezer works, but no cold air is getting to the refrigerator compartment.

I put it in diagnostic mode and ran all six service tests. Condenser fan and evaporator fan both work. Fresh food thermostat and freezer thermostat both work. Damper is functioning normally. The only thing that came up bad was the defrost thermostat/circuit test, which indicates a short.

Based on what I’ve read, my best guess is that I’ve got a bad capacitor and/or relay. Am I right?

Hi, my parents been wondering why our refrigerator is not working. We tried to set up the cold meter from inside the refrigerator, but it wont do anything. Today we open it, and i realize that there is small bronze colored hose that i think its similar to a bronze colored hose.

do i have to attach them ?? and other that that, what else do i have to check ???

I just discovered a puddle of water in front of my freezer. I opened it, and all of my food has defrosted. The ice in the ice box has melted and everything has condensation on it and I’m afraid my food will spoil if this keeps happening. Here are some details:

My parents just increased the coldness of the freezer from 4 to 8 to see if it will work. Is my freezer not working at all or is the temperature messed up?

I have Amana refrigerator and the problem is it does not produce cold unless I manually melt the ice. Last week technician came to my house and did the same thing I did and charged me a lot for replacing compressor. Now, the problem is still the same. I believe that the problem is the defrost system or microchip (I am not aware of the proper term for that microchip) that allows my frig to melt the ice automatically and periodically. I called technician again and he tells me that the microchip could be the problem and it will cost me more money to replace this part. Does anyone know the proper term for that microchip? and website or store I could purchase from?

there is condensation on the outside of the freezer on my top freezer fridge. yesterday was the first time, i wiped it off before bed and this morning it is back. the "amana" stainless fridge is only 4-5 years old.
the moisture is in like a picture frame in the center of the door, not around the edges
